Hi guys…it’s Jenny and as Dennis mentioned the other day I am going to start talking to all of you about weddings!
So, you’re getting married?! Congratulations! First and foremost, have you set the big date? Sometimes, this is not as easy as it sounds. You have to make sure that your desired ceremony and reception locations are both available on the same date at the desired times. And, don’t forget to check the availability of your must-have wedding photographer, Dennis Bullock Photography, of course!
But, you may want to also consider other potential items before setting the date. You should check to make sure your wedding date doesn’t conflict with another major event, causing your guests to have to choose between your most important day and another very important event. Hopefully, they would choose to attend your wedding without even a moment’s hesitation, but rather than risk hurt feelings or cause your maid-of-honor to have to choose between your wedding or her parents’ 25th wedding anniversary celebration, doing a bit of advance planning with your attendants and close family can be really beneficial in reducing unnecessary stress, while also showing everyone that you are a caring and generous bride!
Now, don’t get me wrong – you are NOT required to cater to your great-aunt Effie and schedule around her monthly garden club luncheon. Nor are you required to plan around the tri-county softball tournament. There will never be a date that doesn’t already have something scheduled on it. Bottom line – make sure the date works for those most important to you and your groom for your wedding and then go for it! And, once your date is set, don’t let your second cousin, once removed, guilt you into changing it because it happens to fall on the same day as her precious son, Jimmy’s school carnival! And, if your future mother-in-law phones you to sweetly ask you to make major time changes because her procrastinating younger brother, Larry, waited until the last minute to book his flight and discovered that he won’t be arriving until after the ceremony, you can gently remind her of the painstaking efforts you previously took in accommodating everyone, and then stick to your original plans. While you don’t want to be accused of being a “Diva Bride”, you don’t need to be a “doormat” either.
Life is all about choices. Think of it this way – you will be able to tell where you and your fiancé rate by whether “those folks” (you know who they are) choose to go to the annual demolition derby instead of your event. And, quite frankly, they might be doing you a HUGE favor by not coming! (wink, wink) Really, did you want cousin Valerie’s husband, Frank, to slither around on the dance floor doing his version of “the bacon”?? Yes, we all have relatives who don’t seem to understand the concept of acceptable wedding reception behavior…
Remember, don’t sweat the small stuff – your day will be special because it is the first married day of the rest of your life with the love of your life! Enjoy this time of planning, and God Bless you both!
